Launch of The Syndicate, a research partnership between the Protection Review and Hannover Life Re (UK) focusing on innovation and consumer research
The Syndicate is a new and innovative research initiative open to companies involved in the life and health protection industry who want to gain detailed insights into consumer thinking, attitudes and behaviour.
Following the success of consumer research from the Protection Review report, which has been developed over many years it, was decided to launch The Syndicate to share wider perceptions and monitor consumer trends over time with like-minded companies. The industry still has much to learn about the role of protection in consumers’ lives, looking for inspiration and fresh perspectives on how we can engage better with them.
The Syndicate provides members and partners with opportunities to share ideas and collaborate on future projects. The research focus for 2011 has been on ‘Gender’ which is very much an industry hot topic at present, looking at the differences in attitudes between the way men and women view their finances, security and protection products and ‘Lifestyle’ reviewing spending habits, needs and expectations.
Early findings are showing that when considering financial matters men and women are equally involved in the decision making process. The industry focus on a gender neutral environment will be aligned to consumers’ lifestyles and approach to financial products. Research results will provide members with an increased understanding in the differences and complexities of our audience which would support the industry in better serving the consumer. Findings will be shared shortly.
We are pleased to confirm Syndicate membership from the following organisations Zurich, Friends Life, Exeter Family Friendly and The Finance IT Net-Work.

The Syndicate exists to discover changing public sentiment to key issues of major topical importance to the life and health insurance industries. The members of The Syndicate which has been formed by the Protection Review and Hannover Life Re (UK) will receive results of research (conducted by ICM as part of their regular omnibus surveys) and participate in an annual forum.
The purpose of the syndicate is to take an in-depth look at consumer attitudes, get insights from across and outside the industry on consumer reactions and to try to develop some important strategic perspectives on the new directions the industry may have to take as society changes. The Syndicate places a magnifying glass against British consumers and attempts to help the industry to serve them better.
